Add value to social networks if you want to succeed

Marketers have to stop doing marketing just because of the marketing. They have to listen and learn first before they can talk. With social media marketers have to add value to the brand experience of the community. If you listen to your consumers, you will better understand what they want and need.

David Lewis (on iMediaConnection) says: “To stay ahead, brands need to look at the spaces where people will be talking about their product or brand in a broader, more mobile, and more fluid way. And not just mobile from a device perspective, but mobile in that brands may need to follow these people from device to device, and from platform to platform.”

It is quite simple really. If you want your brand to be recognized, you must add value to the community, one way or the other. So if you’re a sports brand, market your way to sport forums, sport communities, etc. and give the community something in return (something to read or perhaps a discount on your brand).

As I have written before, social media can affect your brand image in a positive way with a small amount of resources.
