Het Russische bedrijf Orbital Technologies is van plan een comfortabele module te maken die in een baan rond de aarde gaat. Dat maakte het bedrijf woensdag (lokale tijd) bekend. Ruimtetoerisme bestond al, maar tot nog toe was het voor de recreërende ruimtereiziger behelpen met een oncomfortabele plek in het International Space Station (ISS), te midden van astronauten. Het toeristenprogramma van de ISS werd eerder dit jaar stopgezet wegens ruimtegebrek.

American airplane manufacturer Boeing has started a joint venture with a spaceflight company. The whole idea is that the spaceflight company would sell seats to the International Space Station on board of a new spaceship the manufacturer is building.

A team of planet hunters including scientists from the NASA Astrobiology Institute has announced the discovery of a planet with three times the mass of Earth orbiting a nearby star at a distance that places it squarely in the middle of the star’s “habitable zone,” an area where liquid water could exist on the planet’s surface. If confirmed, this would be the most Earth-like exoplanet yet discovered, and the first strong case for a potentially habitable one.
